Iwasaki CP Wood Carving Files 150 mm
Product details
Iwasaki CP Wood Carving Files 150 mm with White Oak Handle
Flat & Half Round | Fine & Extra Fine
These Iwasaki CP wood carving files are some of the nicest finishing files you can use on timber. Unlike traditional rasps that tear fibres, CP files use a precision-cut tooth pattern that produces fine shavings, resists clogging and leaves a remarkably clean surface straight off the tool. They sit beautifully between a knife or gouge and your final sanding, often reducing the amount of abrasive work needed at the end.
At 150 mm long, these files are compact, easy to control and perfect for carving, shaping and refining smaller to medium-sized work. They shine in green wood and dry timber alike, and are especially good for bowl work, sculptural forms and fine joinery details.
What the CP range is best for
The CP series is designed specifically for fine shaping and surface refinement rather than heavy stock removal. Think of these as shaping tools that leave a surface closer to finished, rather than roughing tools. They are ideal for:
-
Refining knife and axe facets
-
Cleaning up tool marks
-
Truing surfaces and gentle curves
-
Preparing surfaces before sanding or burnishing
Variant guide
CP Flat 150 mm Fine
A great all-round finishing file for flat and gently curved surfaces. The fine cut removes small amounts of material with control and leaves a clean, even surface. Ideal for refining spoon backs, flattening facets, cleaning up shoulders and smoothing flat reference surfaces.
CP Half Round 150 mm Fine
This is your go-to file for curves. The half round profile lets you work both concave and convex shapes, making it perfect for spoon bowls, carved hollows, handles and flowing transitions. The fine cut gives good control without tearing fibres.
CP Flat 150 mm Extra Fine
This file is all about surface quality. The extra fine cut removes very little material but leaves a beautifully smooth finish. It is ideal for final refinement before sanding, softening facets, blending surfaces and cleaning up areas that are already close to finished.
CP Half Round 150 mm Extra Fine
Designed for finishing curved surfaces to a very high standard. This is the file you reach for when you want to polish the inside of a spoon bowl, refine tight curves or clean up sculpted forms without changing the shape. It leaves an exceptionally clean surface that needs minimal follow-up work.
Why we like them
These files bridge the gap between edge tools and abrasives. They give you far more control over form than sandpaper, and they let you work cleanly and quietly at the bench. Once you use a CP file properly, it becomes one of those tools you reach for constantly.
