Product details

This ceramic burnisher adds a beautiful shine to your spoons and feels great in your hand so you will be looking for excuses to use it.

Originally we were buying this tool from Emmet van Driesche @emmet_van_driesche the burnisher’s designer however demand outstrips supply and it has been hard to get stock.  Therefore we approached Emmet for permission to make it here in Australia under licence. Emmet was stoked with this idea.  Going forward all ceramic burnishes sold thru Wood Tamer will be made by local ceramicist Shellie Christian @shelliechristianstudio

"It's amazing how the feel of the spoon changes from fresh off the knife to being burnished, polished and treated." - Emmet

FAQs

Q1 – Should you apply the oil/wax after or before Burnishing?

Answer - We would recommend applying oil or wax after burnishing.

Q2 – When burnishing the bowl of a spoon, should you burnish with or across the grain?

AnswerYou can rub up and down and round and round and across every which way.  What it is actually doing is compacting the fibres back in on themselves.  Go nuts. Just make sure to support any thinner/vulnerable sections of your piece so as not to crack or break it.

Q3 - What do I do if my burnisher gets dirty or has a raised grain that is leaving marks on the wood?

Answer - You can rub your burnisher back with some fine wet and dry sandpaper to clean it up or remove raised grain/grit. We recommend doing this under running water or in bowl to avoid creating ceramic dust.
