Focuser Slöyd Knife Blade — 80 mm (52100) for DIY handle

A proper slöyd blade for makers who like to fit their own handle. Hand-forged from 52100 high-carbon steel and heat-treated to RC 59–60, this 80 mm blade is ready for spoons, small bowls and fine whittling once you’ve handled it up. Blade only.

Why we rate it

  • Good steel, good temper: 52100 takes a crisp edge and holds it well at HRC 59–60.

  • Easy to handle up: The round tang makes the build straightforward — drill a clean, straight bore and you’re most of the way there.

  • Working geometry that helps: A bold belly from tip to heel gives smooth slicing and controlled paring; the tip has an upwards rake for clean entry cuts and precise stop cuts.

  • Forged, not stamped: A solid, workmanlike blade with dependable geometry.

Key details

  • Blade length: 80 mm

  • Steel: 52100 high-carbon (hand-forged)

  • Hardness: RC 59–60

  • Supplied: Blade only — for DIY handle fit-up

Handle & setup

Drill a snug, straight hole in hardwood to suit the round tang, bed with epoxy, and hold upright in a vice or similar until the glue has cured. Shape the handle so the edge centres naturally in your grip and the tip tracks true. Set your bevels to your usual carving geometry and bring up a clean apex before first use.

Care

Wipe the blade dry after carving and oil lightly to prevent rust. Strop on a firm backing to maintain the edge; re-hone as needed.
