Product details

This stunning spoon/kuksa/bowl carving scorp has been made from hard wearing 52100 steel and is polished to a mirror finish.  The advantage of this scorp is that you get a left and right handed hook both rolled into one tool. It is much safer than a double sided hook knife and also means that you can make comfortable push cuts on the rounded and polished spine.

The octagonal handle allows for easy grip without fatigue.

It comes razor sharp straight out of the quality leather sheath.

Specifications

  • blade length –  45mm
  • blade width - 15mm
  • steel - 52100
  • hardness - HRC 58-59

Overall Dimensions:

  • Handle length - 140mm
  • Overall length - 185mm

We recommend only sharpening hook knives and scorps  on the inside edge as you have a flat registration point to work with.  The outside of the blade has a convex surface from the tip to heel as well as from the edge to the spine which means that there is a complexity to could lead to headaches if you get it wrong.

Regular stropping however on the inside edge using a dowel with stropping compound and a stropping paddle for the outside edge is a great way to maintain a keen edge for  longer before you will even need to think about resharpening your hook knives.

Strongway tools are first class and this scorp is no exception. Carves through green and seasoned wood like butter and is a joy to use. Highly recommend for any spoon carvers out there.
